Action Pour la Paix, Développement Intégral et Émergence is a community based organisation working in Mahagi Territory in Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The organisation strengthens livelihoods, promotes sustainable agriculture, supports forest conservation and defends the land and human rights of vulnerable rural communities.
The Kilimo Environmental Prize in 2023 recognised APDIE for its commitment to climate smart agriculture, poverty reduction and environmental protection in areas deeply affected by conflict. The organisation empowers women and smallholder farmers through cooperative agricultural models that improve food security, increase incomes and advance economic justice.
APDIE promotes sustainable and locally driven livelihood initiatives that include tree nurseries, poultry, beekeeping, snail and fish farming, organic fertilisers, vegetable gardens, non timber forest products, organic soaps and crafts made from forest materials. These activities support forest restoration, strengthen climate resilience and provide dignified sources of income for low income families. The award enables APDIE to continue its work with renewed strength and to expand its reach to more vulnerable communities in Mahagi and across Ituri. It affirms the essential role that local organisations play in protecting tropical forests, supporting peace and building resilient rural societies.
