Agenorwoth Kasegu is an environmental health advocate and community educator from Wagungu Chiefdom in Mahagi Port on the shores of Lake Albert in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He serves as a council leader within the chiefdom and often represents the traditional authority in community ceremonies. He has used this responsibility to promote environmental protection, climate smart agriculture and sustainable living across the chiefdom.

Agenorwoth is widely recognised for his work on circular recycling and pollution reduction. He leads sensitisation campaigns that help households understand the health risks associated with burning waste, improper disposal of plastics, contaminated water sources and general environmental degradation. His awareness efforts are crucial in a lakeshore region where pollution threatens the health of both people and ecosystems.

He teaches practical recycling and reuse methods that reduce the volume of waste entering Lake Albert and surrounding wetlands. His community activities encourage families and youth to adopt environmentally responsible practices, reuse plastic materials, improve hygiene and reduce reliance on single use plastics. These efforts protect water quality, reduce pollution and strengthen environmental resilience.

Agenorwoth Kasegu received the Kilimo Environmental Prize in recognition of his leadership and dedication to building cleaner, healthier and more sustainable communities. His work demonstrates how traditional leadership roles, combined with community education, can inspire environmental stewardship and safeguard the wellbeing of present and future generations.
