Environnement En Danger is a community based organisation working in Panduru Chiefdom in Mahagi Territory in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The organisation promotes forest protection, sustainable land use and climate smart agriculture among communities whose livelihoods depend entirely on natural ecosystems.

Environement En Danger

The organisation mobilises more than five thousand community members who grow coffee, plant native trees and rehabilitate degraded land. These efforts reduce carbon emissions, improve soil fertility and help restore rainfall patterns and other ecological functions that are vital for farming families. Their work offers practical, community driven solutions to poverty, food insecurity and the impacts of climate change.

Environnement En Danger plays a significant role in strengthening land and resource rights, especially for Indigenous women who face persistent barriers to accessing and controlling land. The organisation supports the recovery of customary governance systems for forests, water sources and agricultural lands, ensuring that community based rules guide responsible and equitable use of resources.

Their approach is grounded in local knowledge of the territory, its ecosystems and cultural practices. Women lead many of the climate solutions implemented, from planning to field activities and community monitoring, making their participation central to adaptation and resilience.

Environement En Danger

Environnement En Danger is also at the forefront of the fight against illegal timber harvesting and wildlife trafficking. Through community vigilance networks, awareness campaigns and collaboration with local authorities, the organisation helps protect critical forest areas and the wildlife that depends on them. The work of Environnement En Danger demonstrates the power of organised rural communities to restore their environment, defend their rights and build resilient and dignified livelihoods.
