Omirambe Jude is an environmental campaigner and a youth climate defender from Dei in Uganda’s Albertine region. He leads community education and awareness efforts through radio programmes, phone-in engagements and public dialogues that help rural households understand the importance of conservation and climate action. His advocacy focuses on reducing plastic pollution, recycling polythene waste and promoting responsible environmental behaviour among young people.
Jude applies technical knowledge to support community based climate solutions. His work covers ecosystem restoration, reforestation, soil conservation, water management and disaster resilience. He promotes analog forestry, conservation of native seeds, agroecological agriculture and sustainable livelihood options that help families adapt to prolonged drought and changing weather patterns. His approach connects community knowledge with practical methods to protect the environment and improve food security.
He was recognised with the Kilimo Environmental Prize in 2023 for the importance and impact of his work in the Albertine region. This area is one of East Africa’s most ecologically sensitive zones. It hosts critical wetlands, river systems and wildlife habitats that are threatened by land degradation, pollution and climate change. Communities living along Lake Albert face increasing pressure from declining fish stocks, reduced rainfall, unpredictable seasons and growing waste pollution. Jude’s efforts provide young people and local families with the tools they need to restore ecosystems, strengthen resilience and protect the environment that sustains their lives.
His dedication reflects the power of youth leadership in tackling climate change and safeguarding natural resources in vulnerable rural landscapes.
